CAV - Constant air volume

CAV is the simplest form of control.

CAV corresponds to a simple on/off timer, which can, for example, switch a unit on at 07:00 and turn it off again at 16:00.

CAV is typically used when:

- The required level of ventilation is uniform
- There is little variation in impact by persons in the room
- There is little variation in heat load

Examples: Copy room, corridors and toilets

Features Advantages Disadvantages
- Clock and week plan control on and off times
  for the ventilation system
- The clock can be overridden
  via a switch
  or motion sensor
- Cheap installation
- Simple control
- Same airflow in all rooms,
  regardless of loading
- Higher energy consumption
