Since 1 January 2023, according to the Danish Building Regulations BR18, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) calculations must be made for all buildings over 1.000 m2. The requirement is simple. The annual CO2 footprint perm 2 must be less than 12 kg CO2 eq.

However, this legal requirement is not particularly ambitious. Inspired by voluntary schemes, there are fortunately many developers who want to build much more sustainably.

See BR18 Building Regulations.

The goal is to have as small a footprint as possible. This not only reduces the environmental impact, but is also a good incentive for developers. They can obtain much better loan terms in connection with the financing of new buildings. The lender receives green points for financing green construction and delivering on DGNB and other voluntary schemes.
