Filter standard ISO 16890
On 1 July 2018, a new filter standard came into force.
EXHAUSTO retains the old item numbers, but uses the new designations in item texts, etc.
New filter standard
The new filter standard contributes to filter efficiency and classification that is more in line with reality as well as the same standard across the world, creating less confusion.

How to determine filter class after 2018-Default Values
- Test performed with 0.3-10 μm particles
- Classification is based on results for particle sizes PM1, PM2.5 and PM10
- The filter is discharged of static electricity during the test
- Dust load with ISO “fine dust” to find pressure loss
Filter class | Requirements | Test category
ePM1 | ePM 2.5 | ePM10 | ||
ISO Coarse | - | - | ≤50% | Coarse filter |
ISO ePM10 | ≥50% | ePM10 [%]
ISO ePM 2.5 | ≥50% | ePM 2.5 [%]
ISO ePM1 | ≥50% | ePM1 [%] |
The table below is an excerpt from the classification table. Here you can see:
- which requirements in relation to starting efficiency and efficiency after discharge for each filter class
- what type of filter the previous filters should/can be replaced with
PM1 classification | PM2.5 classification | PM10 classification | Grove |
ePM1 [95%] | ePM2.5 [95%] | ePM10 [95%] | Weight excretion reported in 5% steps |
|
|
| No discharge requirement |

New designations for the panel filters used for VEX100 – 200 – 300
Previous designation | Filter class according to ISO 16890 |
M5 | Coarse 85% |
F7 | ePM1 55% |
F9 | ePM1 80% |
Pre-filtering
The filter selection must take into account the current outdoor climate and the desired indoor climate.
According to ISO 16798, you must select the filter class according to the quality of the outdoor air (ODA) and the quality of the supply air (SUP):
Outside air quality | SUP1 (High) PM2.5 ≤ 2,5 PM10 ≤ 5 | SUP2 | SUP3 | SUP4 (Low) PM2.5 ≤ 10 PM10 ≤ 20 | SUP5 (Very low) PM 2.5 ≤ 15 PM10 ≤ 30 |
Categorize | ePM1 | ePM1 | ePM 2.5 | ePM10 | ePM10 |
ODA 1 (Clean | 60% | 50% | 60% | 60% | 50% |
ODA 2 | 80% | 70% | 70% | 80% | 60% |
ODA 3 | 90% | 80% | 80% | 90% | 80% |
EXHAUSTO therefore offers pre-filtration for VEX300T, VEX200 and VEX4000
